The Ask
Development Finance Initiative (DFI) needed a brand refresh that reflected the diversity of North Carolina communities they serve, from urban centers to rural landscapes. The new identity needed to stand on its
own while maintaining alignment with the broader
UNC brand system.
DEVELOPMENT FINANCE INITIATIVE
Branding and Visual Identity
The Approach
I selected a refined color palette and type system to modernize DFI’s visual identity. Custom illustrations, iconography, and patterns were developed to reflect the varied landscapes of North Carolina. To ensure consistency across materials, I also designed branded templates including solicitations, presentations,
and letterheads.
The Achievement
The refreshed identity equipped DFI with a full suite of branded materials that strengthened their presence while maintaining a clear connection to UNC. With customizable templates now in use, staff can produce consistent, on-brand communications with greater efficiency and less design oversight. The new system reduced visual inconsistency across departments and gave the team confidence in presenting their work to partners and communities across the state.
